Not Too Proud to Ask For Help
UR_KY has always prided itself that no matter what the need was, we could plan for it, raise funds for it, do the labor for it - whatever was required. If we didn't have the means or the promise of means to take on a project, we didn't. We've always had funds in the bank for emergency situations due to good planning. But then the unthinkable happened. We had a rescue ask us if we could hold some breeder turn in animals 'for a few weeks' while the indiscreet breeder was willing to turn them over, and to give the rescue time to integrate the animals into their shelter. We said of course we would, for a few weeks. The rescuer took all the small fluffy, easily adoptable animals into their system, while UR_KY held the hounds and big mixed animals. You guessed it. The rescue said that the rescuer who spoke for them was wrong - they weren't taking the animals. So for months URKY had to board, vet and care for this large number of dogs while we tried to find rescues and homes for unsocialized, large, mostly mixed breed hounds. It has cost us over $12,000 to do this. We still owe $9,200. We are disheartened, disgusted and dismayed by this situation. As we said, we have always prided ourselves on our ability to take care of business. We learned two lessons. One is, talk to all the folks involved in a rescue before you obligate to help, to make certain the member you are working with has the right to make promises for the rescue. Despite how high up in the ranks the member is, make sure they have the okay to make promises. And secondly, don't be too proud to say you made a huge mistake, and ask for help. We are now, albeit late, asking for help to pay off these vetting and boarding bills for this animals. The good news in all this is that finally, finally, and with the help of one particular hound loving rescuer - all of the animals found homes or rescues....finally. In retrospect that is what UR_KY has always done - found homes for animals in need, no matter what it takes. And it took a lot. Can you help, even a little? Until these bills are cleared up, UR_KY can not take in any more breeder turn ins, we can not pay any more emergency vet bills for our members, we can not do any more busts and raids like those in the past that have saved hundreds of animal's lives and led to convictions of the abusers. As soon as these bills are paid, UR_KY will get back to business as usual - saving lives and helping our members. UR_KY has helped hundreds of members, rescues and shelters out. We've found food, supplies and funds for lots of people who needed us. Now, we need those we've helped to help us. And we need you to help if you can. Thank you.
